On August 1, 2010, the 16U Bergen Blazers ended their magical season with a 3-1 championship game win over Apponaug Gold (Massachusetts) in the ASA East Bay Invitational in Bristol, RI. It was the 4th tournament victory in 8 tournaments entered. Jena Kayte ("JK") McAvoy was named tournament MVP, with stellar defensive play and a .750 on base percentage. (Batgirl Victoria Sandner was a close second in the MVP balloting). Pitchers Nicole Hroncich, Jaimie Gorman and Ally Mende split the championship game. The Blazers trailed 1-0 in the 4th, but got a 2 out RBI hit from Emily Riemer to plate Andie Scibetta, followed by an RBI hit by Rhianna Maglio. The Blazers picked up an insurance run in the 6th when McAvoy scored on a 2 out RBI by Becca Butler. The 16s and 18s stayed in beautiful Newport, RI and enjoyed the cliffs, mansions and great restaurants. The trophy ceremony was cut short because the 18U Bergen Blazers were in the bottom of the 7th of their championship game on an adjacent field, and the 16s ran over to watch the dramatic conclusion.
